working with smartphones
We worked with Altech to make a video about the S2 solar lamp that they were selling at the time. Sales people, or solar ambassadors, used a smartphone to show the video to prospective customers. It turned out to be a distraction in the sales process, a lesson well learned, but also the start of a journey to using smartphones to manage the business and improve customer relationships.
Since then we have worked with Altech to integrate an Open Data Kit (ODK) app to collect and manage data in the field. This approach has evolved and, with our help, Altech are also using a similar ODK app to collect customer feedback.
The solar ambassadors also use a Bluetooth connection between mobile and solar lamp to switch on the lamp when they receive customer payment. While Angaza is their back end application to collect the payment data.
The smartphone is revolutionising business elsewhere in Africa and Altech are pioneering its use in the Congo.
